Day One: Wellington – Lake Taupo – Rotorua 

This morning you will depart Wellington and travel north to Rotorua, initially up the Kapiti Coast on the south-eastern tip of the North Island. Here you will have great views of Cooks Strait, Kapiti Island and, on a clear day,

We leave Wellington at 7am travelling north along transmission gully arriving at the US Memorial 40 minutes after leaving the city where you will learn the history of the time the marines stayed between Between 1942 and 1944 you would have been forgiven for thinking Queen Elizabeth Park had been taken over by Americans, because we had!
During those years over 15,000 American troops were stationed at Queen Elizabeth Park (then Camp Russell), Whareroa Farm (then Camp Mackay) and Paekākāriki Village (then Camp Paekākāriki). the mountain ranges of the South Island. As you travel further north you will reach the dry arid central plateau which is home of several active volcanoes. The volcanic cone snow-capped mountains form a spectacular backdrop to this barren landscape.

after lunch we continue to travel north for approx. 1.5 hours arriving at the huka falls where you will be able to experience the rushing water as it flows toward lake Taupo

At the top of the central plateau you will reach the shores of Lake Taupo and the Taupo Township. 

With a quick trip into Rotorua

Day Two: Rotorua

This morning around 09.30 you will be collected from your Rotorua accommodation and transferred through to Whakarewarewa geothermal reserve and Maori Living Village with a wonderland of dramatic geysers, bubbling mud, together with Māori cultural experiences. Here you will experience a guided tour of the geothermal park followed by a Maori Cultural experience. The thermal valley surrounded by boiling mud pools, and the famous Pohutu geyser. 

Early afternoon transferred back to your Rotorua accommodation. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore Rotorua, this thermal wonderland on your own. You may like to visit the Government Gardens, wander along the lake front, do some shopping in the central township or visit one of the many attractions the city has to offer, such as the Skyline Gondola, Agrodome or Canopy Ziplining.

This evening there is the option to include a Maori Cultural Performance and traditional Maori  Hangi Dinner as part of your Rotorua Experience. This can be booked as an optional extras at the time of booking.

Day Three: Rotorua – Waitomo – Auckland 

This morning you will depart Rotorua and travel through the lush Waikato Plains,  and Mamaku Hills to Waitomo. At Waitomo, enjoy a guided tour of the Waitomo Caves which includes a boat ride through the famous Glowworm Grotto. Wander through subterranean caverns, which are lit by tiny luminescent glowworms, and learn how the stalagmites, stalactites and other spectacular limestone rock formations were formed over millions of years. From Waitomo, the coach continues through the beautiful Waikato region, the dairy farming capital of New Zealand, and onward to Auckland for a late afternoon arrival.
